Teamship(1) Postmortem
How did the jam go?
The jam was pretty rough towards the end. Fixing bugs and other issues with packaging took more time than I anticipated. I'm still satisfied with the way things turned out. I believe the experience is very valuable and helps me prepare for the kinds of issues I may encounter in future game jams. Creating the mechanics of swapping characters and buttons that open doors went well. There were features that I realized were beyond the scope of this project that had to get cut. This helped me focus on the primary mechanics of the project instead of features that didn't really add much to the experience.
How much time did you spend on it?
The project took at least six hours. About two hours went into creating the mechanics, another two for mapping out the level, and another two working out the packaging bugs. I think an initial planning phase would have helped smooth out most of the issues I encountered with the project.
What part of 'making a game' do you need the most help with?
Time management. Going into this project with some brainstorming and time allocation would have helped with the frustration of getting it turned in on time. I still managed to get everything worked out and turned in on time, but the whole process would have been much less stressful. It was also the first time I've had to package and upload an Unreal onto itch.io. I think with some planning and exposure to the process of creating a game for a game jam, I will learn how to make my game making process more efficient.
